HUNNIC TRIBES, Hephthalites. Drachm (Silver, 32 mm, 3.35 g, 3 h), BBA (the camp mint), RY 37 = AD 627, countermarked in late 7th century AD. Draped bust of Khosrau II to right, wearing elaborate mural crown; behind head, AFZUT GDH ('may his kingship increase' in Pahlawi); before head, HWSRWD ('Khosrau' in Pahlawi); in upper left margin, Sogdian countermark. Rev. Fire altar with ribbons flanked by two attendants; in upper left field, six-pointed star; in upper right field, crescent; to left, date; to right, BBA (name of the mint in Pahlawi). SSCT 2215. An interesting example with a beautiful and clear countermark. Struck from a somewhat worn reverse die, otherwise, about extremely fine.
